Boris Shor

Overview

Boris Shor is a political scientist at the University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy. His research focuses on legislative ideology, state politics, and quantitative measurement of political preferences. He is a co-author of the Gelman-Shor-Bafumi-Park (2007) study resolving the rich state–poor state voting paradox using multilevel logistic regression.

Key Contributions

• Gelman-Shor-Bafumi-Park (2007): Co-developed the varying-intercept, varying-slope multilevel logistic model showing that the income–Republican vote slope $\beta_s$ is steepest in poor states (Mississippi) and near-zero in rich states (Connecticut); confirmed the pattern emerged post-1992.
