Overview

Research economist at the Center for Retirement Research at Boston College (CRR); also affiliated with the Retirement Equity Lab at The New School's Schwartz Center for Economic Policy Analysis. Works on Social Security, disability insurance, retirement income adequacy, and health inequality. Regular collaborator with Alicia H. Munnell and other CRR researchers.

Key Contributions / Features

• State SSDI application rate variation (Coe et al. 2011): Co-author of CRR study showing that health, demographics, and employment explain >70% of cross-state SSDI application variation; found that TDI mandates and strict health insurance market regulation independently reduce SSDI applications. • SES-mortality inequality (Sanzenbacher et al. 2017): Co-author; using NLMS data 1979–2011 with a relative education quartile approach (ordered probit reassignment), showed all SES groups gained LE while inequality rose sharply; reconciled conflicting literature findings (Olshansky's absolute declines vs. Bound's relative-rank gains).
