Iain D. Currie is a statistician at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh. He co-developed P-spline mortality smoothing with María Durbán and Paul H.C. Eilers, providing a unified Poisson GLM alternative to the Lee-Carter SVD approach for fitting and forecasting the two-dimensional mortality surface. He has also contributed to the broader framework of Generalized Linear Array Models (GLAMs) enabling efficient array-based computation for tensor-product regression.
