María Durbán is a Spanish statistician at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. She is a specialist in penalized regression and mixed models, and co-developed the P-spline mortality smoothing framework with Iain D. Currie and Paul H.C. Eilers, applying Generalized Linear Array Model (GLAM) computation to the problem of fitting and forecasting the two-dimensional log-mortality surface.
