Overview
Josep Pijoan-Mas is an economist at CEMFI (Centro de Estudios Monetarios y Financieros) in Madrid. His research spans quantitative macroeconomics with heterogeneous agents, wealth inequality, labor market dynamics, and, jointly with Ríos-Rull, the measurement of socioeconomic differentials in life expectancy using structural hazard models.
Key Contributions / Features
- Pijoan-Mas and Ríos-Rull (2014, Demography): Developed the expected longevity framework — a hazard model with time-varying stochastic endogenous covariates (health, wealth, income, marital status, smoking) estimated on HRS data — to compute within-cohort longevity gaps and correct the 3–7× overstatement produced by period life expectancy. See Pijoan-Mas and Ríos-Rull 2014 — Heterogeneity in Expected Longevities.
