Overview
Mariacristina De Nardi is an Italian-American macroeconomist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis and a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER). Her research focuses on heterogeneous-agent life-cycle models, wealth inequality, bequests, precautionary savings, and the economics of health and long-term care in old age. In demographic economics, she is a co-author of the Boldrin-Jones reverse-altruism fertility model.

- Fertility and Social Security (with Boldrin and Jones 2015): Co-authored the quantitative calibration and empirical testing of the reverse-altruism fertility model, showing a 10 percentage-point increase in Social Security spending as a share of gross domestic product (GDP) reduces the total fertility rate (TFR) by 0.7–1.6 children per woman across a cross-section of 104 countries.
