Yuan Zhang

Overview

Yuan Zhang is a demographer whose research focuses on healthy aging, disability measurement, and life expectancy decomposition. She is a co-author, with Eileen Crimmins and Yasuhiko Saito, of the 2016 American Journal of Public Health paper on 40-year trends in U.S. disability-free life expectancy.

Key Contributions

• Co-author of the 40-year U.S. DFLE trend analysis (1970–2011): found no compression of morbidity at birth, partial compression at age 65+ for women, and a persistent gender gap in which men have higher DFLE than women despite shorter total lifespans
