KIPP (Knowledge Is Power Program) is the largest charter management organization in the United States, operating a network of free, open-enrollment public charter schools in low-income urban communities. Founded in 1994 by Mike Feinberg and Dave Levin, KIPP schools operate on the "No Excuses" model: extended instructional time (10+ hour school days, longer school year, Saturday sessions), strict behavioral expectations and discipline systems, intensive focus on math and literacy, data-driven instruction, and binding commitment contracts signed by students, parents, and teachers. The network serves predominantly Black and Hispanic students, many of whom are low-income, LEP, or special education eligible.
